Ryan Reynolds is rethinking his decision to take an extended break from acting.
The Deadpool star took a sabbatical from acting in October last year so that he could spend more time with his family.
Ryan has three daughters – James (7), Inez (5) and Betty (2) – with his wife, Blake Lively.
The movie star would often be away from home for months at a time for work, so stepping out of the spotlight for a while meant he could focus his time and attention on his kids.
“I really enjoy being a present dad,” he said at the time.
“I love taking them to school in the morning, I love picking them up.”
But things have changed for the actor after he discovered that being a full-time dad isn’t child’s play.
During a recent interview, the 45-year-old quipped that he’s ready to return to work.
“It’s been hell, I’m going right back. I’m taking the first movie I can find,” Ryan joked.
“No, it’s been great. I’m still busy but I get to be there for my kids in the morning and at night I get to put everyone to bed, so I love that.”
The actor adds that he’s no less busy, just home more. He also says that getting his girls ready in the morning gives him the most stress.
“The morning routine is just so unpredictable. There’s anxiety,” he says.
“I lay awake at night and think, ‘What’s going to happen to me in the morning? How’s this going to go down? Are one of these children going to strike me?’”
As one of four boys, Ryan always hoped for daughters because his brothers ganged up on him when he was young.
“Now that I have girls, I realised I should not have been afraid. I should have wanted boys as well. They’re just as rough.”
He may have been on a five-month break but Ryan’s latest flick, The Adam Project, is due for release on Netflix this month.
The film follows time-travelling pilot Adam Reed, played by Ryan, after he crash lands in 2022.
Reed teams up with his 12-year-old self for a mission to save the future.
Ryan says he wanted to create a movie that parents could enjoy with their kids, just as he did with his late dad, James.
James died in 2015 at the age of 78 after battling Parkinson’s disease.
“I don’t wanna make movies that contribute to any of the weight people are already carrying around,” he says.
“These movies remind me of when I was a kid and I would watch these movies with my dad, like Back to the Future, and we would both think it was the coolest movie we’d ever seen.
“They really hit both kids and adults in equal measure.”
