Looks like Ben Affleck isn't the only one giving a former love a second chance – Ben’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, was recently spotted out with her ex-boyfriend, John Miller, in New York City.
According to an eyewitness, the Peppermint actress tried to be discreet as she arrived by car to pick up the 43-year-old businessman at an apartment building.
“Jen and John are back on, it started up a few weeks ago,” an insider says.
The pair were first romantically linked in May 2018 following Jen’s split from Ben. However, Jen and John broke up before LA went into lockdown last year, reportedly because they couldn’t see eye to eye on the future of their relationship.
“He was ready for marriage, and she just couldn’t commit,” a source says of their August 2020 split. “They parted on very amicable terms.”
Now the former flames are giving their relationship another go, and things seem easier with their rekindled romance.
“John and Jen are in similar places in their lives and can relate to raising kids after a divorce,” a source close to the couple says. “They’re on the same page and understand where things stand.”
Insiders say John, the chairman and CEO of retail development company Cali Group, is warm, fun and incredibly smart – and very much outside of showbiz, which is exactly what Jen wanted.
“He’s a real success in the business world and has no interest in being in the entertainment industry.”
Still, the couple have a lot in common: both are divorced parents, who have made sure to co-parent as amicably as possible with their exes.
Jennifer (49) has daughters Violet (15) and Seraphina (12) and son Samuel (9) with Ben (49), and John has two children from his marriage to Caroline Campbell.
Protecting her family’s privacy has always been a priority for the former Alias star. In the past, Jen has spoken at length about how the paparazzi and tabloid headlines have affected her children over the years.
“When they were smaller and there were things out there that were shocking, my request to them was always, ‘Let Dad and I talk you through whatever it is',” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’d tell them, ‘If you see an image on the front of a magazine, I’ll look at it with you and we’ll process all the scary feelings that come up together'.”
Notoriously private Jen is yet to confirm she’s dating John. But while the Yes Day star is taking a more low-key approach, her ex-husband has been packing on the PDA with his ex-fiancé, Jennifer Lopez.
Ben (49) and Jennifer (52) rekindled their romance this year after first dating 19 years ago. Since hooking up, they’ve been pictured on holidays together, kissing and holding hands.
As their relationship grows from strength to strength, Bennifer has also been letting their kids get to know one another. The couple were spotted on two outings with their chidlren in Los Angeles recently.
On Friday 20 August, they saw Hamilton at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre with Jennifer’s 13-year-old twins, Max and Emme Muñiz, Ben’s brood and his mother, Christine Boldt.
"Since Jennifer and Ben are in it for the long run, it's just a natural step that they all spend time together with the kids," an insider says.
Things seem so serious there’s talks they’re once again headed to the altar.
The marriage rumours were fuelled when the Triple Frontier actor was recently snapped browsing engagement rings at jewellery store Tiffany & Co. in the company of his mom and son.
Back in November 2002, Ben proposed to Jennifer with a 6.1-carat pink diamond by Harry Winston, that reportedly cost $2,5 million (then about R24m).
But the couple decided to postpone their 2003 wedding, blaming “excessive media attention” in a statement.
Here’s hoping they have better luck this time around.
