She couldn't believe what she was hearing. How was it possible that her estranged husband, Orin Roesstorff, could have the gall to get married while his divorce from her was still in the works?
Former Miss SA Claudia Henkel admits she was stunned when she heard that her businessman ex had tied the knot with his girlfriend, Chloe Frampton, in a lavish event at Cape Town's Waterfront.
"I was shocked and upset when I found out. I didn't know anything about this. He didn't even invite our kids, although he often tells me how much he misses them," Claudia says.
The former beauty queen confirms to YOU that she and Orin, with whom she has four-year-old twins, are still married.
They tied the knot in 2015 and were together for four years before their union hit the rocks.
A source from the department of home affairs confirms that the estranged pair are still legally wed. Their divorce proceedings were apparently started in 2020, but haven't been finalised.
Although Claudia (39) declined to elaborate further on the "wedding" shock and her personal life, a source close to her anonymously reveals to YOU she's had to move back in with her parents on their farm outside Pretoria.
"He has the audacity to marry in public," the source says.
Orin and Chloe went public as a couple in August 2019, six months after his split from Claudia.
In April 2021 they announced their engagement.
"Claudia was accommodating and kept quiet about what was going on the whole time.
"She does everything for her children and she works so hard to make sure they're happy. Claudia found out about this thing when people started calling her. She didn't hear about it until nearly two weeks later."
The ceremony was held at the Zeitz Mocaa (Museum of Contemporary Art) in Cape Town in December. Hosting an event at the prestigious venue can cost between R75 000 and R85 000, YOU learnt.
Chloe's gown was made by designer Vesselina Pentcheva, whose dresses typically go for between R25 000 and R55 000.
A legal representative for Claudia also expressed surprise that Orin (38) would go through with a wedding at this point.
"We aren't allowed to release any information about the divorce, but we were still in the process when we suddenly heard about this ceremony."
Orin's lawyer, Johann van Eeden, confirms that the divorce is still pending but adds that the event in December was a "dedication ceremony", not a wedding.
"A dedication ceremony is, with the utmost respect, quite self-explanatory. These are two people who are devoted to each other and who desire to be in a committed relationship," Van Eeden says.
"Claudia is the one who requested the divorce and she hasn't yet taken the necessary steps to complete the process."
Yet Claudia and her lawyer strongly deny she’s the one holding up the divorce proceedings.
