Cape Town - Prince Harry is opening up about the impact his mother, Princess Diana, had on the world.
The Duke of Sussex, who welcomed his first child with wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, about two months ago, delivered a moving speech at The Diana Award National Youth Mentoring Summit on Tuesday, E! News reports.
Prince Harry revealed that becoming a dad to son Archie Harrison has made him realise the importance of being a role model to his baby boy, TODAY reports.
“I’m struck by a few things today, most of which is the power of the invisible role model,” he said.
“The person who may be sitting here today that doesn’t realise that someone looks up to them that – for that person – you inspire them to be kinder, better, greater, more successful, more impactful.”
“Perhaps it’s the newfound clarity I have as a father knowing that my son will always be watching what I do, mimicking my behaviour, one day maybe even following in my footsteps.”
Harry went on to tell the crowd that each move we make matters and that our true character is reflected when we don’t think anyone is watching.
The National Youth Mentoring Summit is run by The Diana Award which is the only charity set up in memory of the late Princess Diana following her tragic death in 1997.
According to the charity’s website, its mission is to “foster, develop and inspire positive change in the lives of young people”.
The Duke of Sussex’s speech kick started an initiative to recruit 500 mentors to help 2 000 young people over the next three years.
Harry concluded his speech by sharing a message about his mother.
“To the mentees here today, I’m incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved, and I can safely say that my mother, who would’ve turned 58 yesterday, would feel the same.”
