Cape Town - Bad Boys for Life was recently released in South Africa.

The long-anticipated Bad Boys sequel reboot featured a star-studded cast which included the likes of Will Smith as Mike Lowrey, Martin Lawrence as Marcus Burnett and new addition to the cast detective Kelly, who’s portrayed by High School Musical actress Vanessa Hudgens.

YOU spoke to the 31-year-old actress about her role in the thriller and crime film.

What was your character preparation process for detective Kelly?

I came to set right from another project, so I didn’t have much lead time. I learnt most of my fight scenes right before we shot them. I actually really enjoyed doing those because it is a lot of choreography, which I’m used to.

What did you enjoy the most during the filming of Bad Boys for Life?

I loved being alongside such a strong group of actors and just an amazing group of people in general. It made for such a fun shoot – not to mention, being on a set with Will Smith means even better crafty for lunch haha!

What was it like working alongside Martin Lawrence and Will Smith?

I couldn’t have been more excited to work alongside the legendary duo that’s Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. We all just had the best time on-set. It was never a dull moment.

What can viewers look forward to from your Bad Boys for Life character?

You can expect to see some pretty bad a** fight scenes. There’s a lot of action in this one!

Are there any future works viewers should look forward to?

I’m going to be shooting my next project, Tick Tick Boom, over the next few months. I’m so ecstatic to be working alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda and my fellow cast members. My next Netflix film, The Princess Switch: Switched Again, will also be released later this year!
