We caught up with the bestselling Wimpy Kid writer to find out how he's been coping over the past few months.

Have you received any feedback from young fans about how your books have helped take their minds off Covid and lockdown?

Yes, I’m getting lots of messages from parents who are appreciative that I’m releasing new books during this time!

How has the pandemic affected you personally?

I’ve been fine through this, but I worry for my kids’ mental health. I have a high school senior who is being deprived of important rites of passage. Who knows how this will effect kids in the long run? It’s difficult.

What have you been getting up to during lockdown? How have you been staying sane?

Mostly, I’ve been working! I wrote two screenplays and two books so far. I’ve also gotten to spend more time with my family, my wife especially. That’s been great.

Have you been okay spending so much time in isolation or have you been feeling cabin feverish?

I actually liked the early days of quarantine. Life was moving too fast and I needed to step off the train. This pandemic made me do that. Now we’re in a hazy/grey period. It’s hard to know how to feel now.

Have you struggled to work? How have you kept yourself motivated?

Yes, it was definitely hard writing humour during all of this. But it’s also given me a sense of purpose.

Have you developed any strange habits or obsessions during this time?

Hmm... strange habits? I’m not sure. I’m a news junky, and I probably read 100 articles a day. But I’ve been on a book tour in the past week, and so I haven’t had time to read as much. That’s a good thing.

What’s next for you? What can fans expect in the next 12 months?

I’m working on a new Rowley book, and I’ve got plans for Wimpy Kid 16!
