AFTER WE COLLIDED
Romantic drama. With Josephine Langford,
Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Dylan Sprouse.
Director: Roger Kumble. 16DLNPSV.
This sequel to After (2019) follows the tumultuous relationship of squeaky clean good girl, Tessa Young (Langford), and bad boy Hardin Scott (Fiennes Tiffin), who got together in the first film. After a breakup, the pair are now dedicated to making their relationship work, but there are several bumps in the road.
Tessa begins an internship at a publishing company and attracts the attention of her new co-worker, Trevor (former child star Sprouse from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody). Then there’s the shocking revelation about how her relationship with Hardin started, as well as questions around Hardin’s dodgy past.
The couple – dubbed Hessa – can’t stay away from each other despite everything and everyone in their lives working against them, but their love is really put to the test in the next phase of their relationship. The film is based on the 2014 teen novel of the same name by Anna Todd, who also wrote the script for the movie. The book became a bestselling hit, but the film adaptation falls flat.
The scenes between the main characters are awkward and the actors lack chemistry. Langford is convincing, but Fiennes Tiffin has a hard time persuading the audience that he’s indeed the bad boy Hardin should be. At most it offers mindless entertainment but it’s ultimately quite forgettable. The book should rather have been left to readers’ imagination.

UPPITY: THE WILLY T RIBBS STORY
Sports documentary. The true story of Willy T Ribbs, the first black driver to win a Trans-Am race, test a Formula One car, and race in the Indy 500.
“Uppity” was how many owners, mechanics, sponsors and drivers in the racing world referred to Willy behind his back. Despite being a Formula Ford champion in England, the American faced daunting obstacles from the white establishment, but persevered and shattered the colour barrier in professional racing to reach his dream.
