A 95-year-old man has left family members stunned when he “miraculously” woke up during his own funeral rites.
After Budh Ram from Rajasthan, India, reportedly fainted at his home, his family immediately called a doctor, who told them that the pensioner had died.
Budh’s eldest son, Balu Ram, 65, told local reporters that the family was bathing his father’s body as is customary before a cremation and were shocked when Bugh began shivering after being doused in cold water. They rushed him to a bed where he reportedly began breathing again.
"He started breathing and sat up on the bed soon after," Balu said.
Ram, who was pictured smiling with his family surrounding him, reportedly told his relatives that he’d felt pain in his chest and decided to take a nap.
His son Balu described his father’s revival as a miracle.
Before Diwali – the Hindu festival of lights, that symbolises the victory of light over darkness – the elderly man’s family said they were happy to have a chance to celebrate with him.
“This is a very happy Diwali for us. Had my father been dead we wouldn’t have celebrated the festival as is the norm in any house where a death has occurred. But this time, the celebrations are going to be grand,” said Ranjit, 55, Budh Ram’s younger son.
