Two people have fallen to their death at a popular viewing point – just a week after another couple’s proposal at the site went viral on social media.

Park rangers at Yosemite National Park in Nevada, US, confirmed that efforts were under way to recover the bodies of a man and woman who fell more than 2 250 metres at Taft Point on Thursday, 25 October, Daily Mail reports.

“This incident is under investigation and no further details are available,” spokesperson Scott Gediman said.

Yosemite Park has been the site of several tragic incidents. Last month hiker Tomer Frankfurter (18) died while making his way down the Nevada Fall, Independent reports.

"We do have tragic falls in the park," park spokesperson Jamie Richards said.

"We've had over 10 fatalities this year. We don’t know the circumstances at this time. This is under investigation."

Last week freelance photographer Matthew Dippel took to social media to track down two strangers he’d snapped at the same spot during their marriage proposal, CBS Local reports.

The photo went viral, garnering more than 5 000 likes and being shared more than 20 000 times.
