He was just 17 when he was found guilty of murder and the sensational story become the subject of many a local newspaper column. 

Then in 2014, the massively popular podcast Serial featured the murder, launching a fascination with true crime stories the world over – and making Adnan Syed’s name known far beyond the boundaries of Baltimore in the US where he was in jail.  

Little wonder then that his recent release again made headlines around the world, especially because of the shocking way he was set free. Adnan (41) spent more than half his life behind bars – for a crime it now appears he didn’t commit. On 19 September, for the first time in 23 years, Adnan became a free man.
