All you need is love – and the only way to improve on love, is for it to be sugar-coated, glazed and topped with sprinkles!
Sugar Good (yes, that’s her real name!) credits a lot of the good things her life to doughnuts, so it was no surprise that she and her fiancé, John Thompson, decided to get married at the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru where their love began.
It was love at first sight when Sugar (49), the general manager of a Dunkin’ Donuts in Oklahoma City, first met John Thompson (45) in 2015.
Serving customers was always part of her daily routine, but seeing John pull up in his red pick-up truck every morning and order his usual – a special croissant and large coffee with cream and sugar – brought a smile to Sugar’s face every day.
“When I started going through the drive-through, I noticed she would smile with her eyes, and I thought, maybe if I read the receipt I can see what her name is,” John says.
All the receipt said was “Sugar No. 7” and assuming it was related to his order, John continued visiting his favourite breakfast stop.
It wasn’t until one day in 2018, Sugar decided to pop her business card into the bag with her crush’s order. Less than a year later, John popped the question in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot, and without hesitation it was a big “yes” from his sweet bae.
“When John and I were planning our big day, we decided there was no better place to say ‘I do’ than right where we met,” Sugar says.
“This Dunkin’ drive-thru has brought me one of my biggest blessings, and we’re so glad we were able to celebrate such a special occasion here with our Dunkin’ family!”
The couple tied the knot with a ceremony at the same drive-thru window where they met. Their celebrations were complete with a Dunkin’ Donuts-themed day – orange and pink balloons, the couple’s favourite glazed treats, a doughnut bouquet and even a doughnut cake!
“From Dunkin' to the newlyweds, we want to send our congratulations on their sweet nuptials and thank them for celebrating their special day with us,” Dunkin’ Donuts said in a press release.
The couple clinked coffee cups, instead of champagne flutes, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect day for Sugar and John.
“Our story wasn’t glamorous, but it was true romance,” Sugar says.
“I am so thankful for everything Dunkin’ has given me – from my job to lifelong friends and, now, my husband!”
