The Western Cape search and Rescue team has confirmed the death of an elderly man after he jumped from the mountainous main viewpoint.
Speaking to YOU magazine, Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) spokesperson, Johan Marais confirmed that the body of a white male estimated to be in his seventies was extracted on the mountain slopes of Chapman’s Peak drive in Hout Bay, Cape Town, on Sunday evening.
This comes after the WSAR was alerted by a witness of the morbid incident.
“A person who witnessed the incident of the man jumping from the cliff alerted our team on Sunday 26 January,” Marais explains.
“Rescue boats, a helicopter and angled climbers were dispatched round about 14:30 for the retrieval of the male laying in a precarious position. He was declared dead on the scene.”
Lieutenant Nebhisi of Hout Bay’s South African National Police Services, confirmed the incident but was unable to disclose the identity of the deceased.
