Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ smash hit Old Town Road has had many people, including celebrities, belt out the lyrics in their own creative videos.

But for one mother, singing the song is about more than just having fun.

Sheletta Brundidge shared a touching video on Twitter of her four-year-old son singing the catchy tune. Little Daniel suffers from autism and is mostly non-verbal, reports PEOPLE.

His vocabulary was previously limited to short phrases like “bottle, please” or “lay down in bed”, the Star Tribune adds.

However, Daniel experienced a “miracle” breakthrough as he hummed and eventually sang along to the tune.

“We had an #oldtownroad miracle at my house. My son Daniel has #autism and doesn’t talk. We caught him humming the @LilNasX and @billyraycyrus tune the other day,” Sheletta wrote on Twitter. “Then Bless God, my baby started singing the song on his own. His therapists have started to use it in his sessions!”

Sheletta, host of the podcast Two Haute Mamas on WCCO Radio, says Daniel was buttoning and unbuttoning the housecoat she was wearing when he suddenly began singing the song. Playing around with her buttons is one of his favourite things to do, she adds.

The proud mom-of-four immediately started crying but managed to record 10 seconds of his singing on her cellphone.

“Somebody said, ‘Why didn’t you record more?’ I said, ‘Honey, I wasn’t about to lose that experience looking through a phone. I want to be in that moment with my child,’” she says.

Sheletta jokes the song, which the family played as much as 47 times in one day, has become somewhat of a nursery rhyme for them.

“Everybody else’s got Mary had a little lamb and the Brundidge babies is rocking the Old Town Road [sic].”
