As far as fairytale favourites go, it’s right up there with the best of them: a princess falls in love with a commoner and, although they come from different backgrounds, their love conquers all and leads to their happily-ever-after.

But for Princess Iman bint Abdullah of Jordan this was no storybook cliché. The 26-year-old daughter of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania married financier Jameel Alexander Thermiótis (28) in a glamorous event that was televised for all of Jordan’s people to see.

Rania was delighted for her eldest daughter. “Iman, I pray this next chapter in your life brings you as much joy, love and laughter as you’ve brought us over the years. Congratulations to the bride and groom!” she said.
