Thomas Markle has shared his thoughts on Meghan Markle’s appearance on The Ellen Show and as usual he isn’t holding back.

The 77-year-old told The Sun that the Duchess of Sussex should be stripped of her royal title because she “made a complete fool of herself”.

“She insulted the queen, the royal family and the British people,” Thomas says.

“She made a complete fool of herself and should lose her title.”

During her appearance on the daytime talk show, Meghan (40) participated in a prank. The former actress wore an earpiece and followed instructions by host Ellen DeGeneres that included gobbling down tortilla chips like a chipmunk.

Meghan also donned kitten ears and sang to a group of confused vendors. Members of the audience found the skit hilarious but Thomas (77) isn’t pleased.

“I love my daughter but her performance was ridiculous,” he says.

The former lighting director also refuted Meghan’s claims she struggled as an upcoming actress and had to drive to auditions in a broken Ford Explorer Sport.

Meghan told Ellen of how she had to get creative when the driver’s side door stopped working: “I would park in the back of the parking lot and open the trunk, then climb in and pull it shut behind me and crawl over all my seats to get out. That's how I would come to and fro.”

But Thomas says it was “not a beat-up old car”.

“She got a lot of help starting in Hollywood,” he says. “She never had to worry about an apartment or spending money.”

Meanwhile Meghan and Prince Harry have made a U-turn on their use of private jets, opting to fly commercial which is cheaper and more eco-friendly.

On a recent trip from New York to Los Angeles, the couple reportedly snuck onto the plane just before take-off to fill the last two seats.

An eagle-eyed passenger spotted Harry, who was wearing a face mask, disembarking when they touched down in California.

“Ok this might sound unbelievable and I couldn’t get a good picture but Prince Harry and Meghan were on our flight to LA last night,” the passenger wrote on social media.

“We were held up for about 20 minutes from our departure time and they were snuck into the last two seats.”

The Sussexes were reportedly whisked away quickly after landing.

This comes after the couple were criticised for boarding a private jet after their appearance at Central Park’s Global Citizen Live concert in September. While on stage, Harry and Meghan encouraged world leaders to combat endemic poverty and climate change.

Many felt their trip from New York to LA on a private jet thereafter was hypocritical.

“I’m sure there were plenty of scheduled flights,” royal author Penny Junor told The Sun.

“This totally muddies the waters of their climate message. They are shooting themselves in the foot by taking private flights.”

Could their switch to commercial travel have something to do with Meghan’s rumoured ambitions to run for the US presidency?

Royal biographer Tom Bower wrote in a opinion piece in July that Meghan’s “next steps are to conquer America, then the world” and that she could have “the guts and self-belief” to one day run for office.

Royal commentator Andrew Eborn believes Meghan’s appearance on The Ellen Show is part of a PR campaign.

“I can tell you here and now she will be wanting to enter politics in the states,” Eborn told Great Britain News. “She's certainly on an interesting PR campaign.”

During her interview, Meghan told Ellen she is doing everything she can to ensure paid family leave for people in the US.

“I think that people truly forget, or don’t even know, that this country is one of only six countries in the entire world and the only wealthy nation in the entire world that does not mandate and have a federal paid leave programme,” Meghan said.

“Everybody knows, especially if you have had a child and even if you haven’t, you know how hard it is and how critical it is in those first few weeks, if not months, to be together as a family.”

Still, if Meghan has any plans to step into the Oval Office, she might want to change a few things up. US law prohibits her from becoming president for as long as she retains her duchess title.

According to the Titles of Nobility Amendment, drafted in 1810, any individual who “accepts, claims, receives or retains a title of nobility bestowed by a foreign power” is not permitted to hold federal office.
