A heartbroken husband from Louisville, Kentucky, in the US, found a new purpose after his 38-year-old wife died from breast cancer.
Bart Conley’s life turned on its head when he lost his beloved wife, Jill Brzezinski-Conley two years ago, reports news.com.au.
Speaking to USA Today, he revealed what gets him out of bed in the morning is training in a career to help others in memory of his late wife.
Bart (44) is currently studying to be a nurse at Norton Women's and Children's Hospital in Kentucky, leaving behind his life as a businessman to give back to others, reports Central Telegraph.
"We had just a wonderful staff of nurses that always took care of her," he said.
"I want to be that nurse the family can depend on, the patient can depend on, going the extra mile, which a lot of the nurses did for Jill."
Jill was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and set up a charity organisation in 2013 called Jill's Wish, with the purpose of helping those going through cancer financially so they could put all their energy into beating the disease. The foundation has already distributed more than R3 million in financial grants.
In 2016, before her passing, the brave woman did a photo shoot to help men and woman suffering from cancer regain their confidence and feel good in their own skin.
"I just want women and men all around the world to feel confident about their body even if they don't have cancer,” she said at the time.
“I just want to get the message out to women that if you're diagnosed tomorrow, if you already were diagnosed, just feel confident and beautiful. Accept your body and embrace it."
Bart says he still misses her and sometimes finds himself wanting to call or turn to her when he has good news.
“I do love her, and I always think about her. She was amazing.”
